Shopify BFCM 2026 checklist: what's new to check this year

A Shopify Black Friday Cyber Monday 2026 checklist: tracking after the checkout upgrade, Rollouts for offers, batch fulfilment, fraud and AI shoppers.

Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026 and Cyber Monday on 30 November, which leaves Shopify merchants about four weeks to prepare. The basics have not changed: stock, offers, site speed and customer service. What has changed this year is the platform underneath. The Thank you page upgrade has removed old tracking scripts, discounts can now be scheduled and tested through Rollouts, batch fulfilment and Shopify Flow can take a lot of manual work out of shipping, and a growing number of shoppers arrive through AI assistants.

This checklist focuses on the things that are new or different for Shopify stores at the time of writing (November 2026), so you can spend the next few weeks on what actually needs attention.

1. Confirm your conversion tracking survived the checkout upgrade

Non-Plus stores had until 26 August 2026 to upgrade their Thank you and Order status pages, and stores that had not upgraded were moved over automatically. Scripts pasted into the old Additional scripts box no longer run on those pages. If an ad platform tag or affiliate script lived there, it may have quietly stopped reporting purchases.

  • Place a real test order and check that it appears as a conversion in Google Ads, Meta and any affiliate or analytics tools you rely on.
  • Compare orders in Shopify Analytics with conversions reported by each platform for a recent week. A sudden gap since late August is a warning sign.
  • Look at Settings > Customer events to see which app pixels and custom pixels are connected.

Fix this before you increase ad spend. Bidding strategies that cannot see conversions tend to spend less efficiently.

2. Schedule and test offers with Rollouts

Since 2 October 2026, discounts can be included in Rollouts (Markets > Rollouts in the admin). That means you can schedule a sale to go live at a set time together with theme and checkout changes, or run it for a fixed period and have it roll back automatically. Shopify's Help Center sets out the details:

Rollout typeWhat it doesPlan
Launch Applies changes permanently Basic or higher
Event Applies changes for a set period, then rolls them back Basic or higher
Experiment Compares a treatment against a control, 50/50 by default Grow or higher

A few limits are worth knowing before you rely on it for Black Friday:

  • A rollout can include up to 250 discounts, and each discount can sit in only one active rollout at a time.
  • In an Experiment, the control group sees your usual discount behaviour, and discount combination settings still apply.
  • Rollouts do not support vintage themes and cover only the online store, not headless storefronts or POS.
  • Results do not include discount-specific metrics, so judge tests on conversion rate and add-to-cart rate.

If you want to compare two offers, start the experiment now rather than on Black Friday itself, so you have time to read the results and choose a winner.

3. Take the manual work out of fulfilment

Two recent Shopify features can help if you expect a spike in orders:

  • Batch fulfilment lets you group up to 250 orders and work through them in a Pick, Print, Pack workflow: one pick list for the batch, labels and packing slips printed together, and a scan-to-verify step when packing. Bulk batching picks up the 250 most recent unfulfilled orders from the last 14 days, and Shopify says it is available to all stores. Buying labels inside a batch depends on Shopify Shipping being supported in your country.
  • The Purchase shipping label action in Shopify Flow can buy a label automatically when an order is ready, using the cheapest service or a carrier you choose. One caution from Shopify's documentation: cancelling an order does not void a label the workflow has already bought, so build a habit of voiding labels for cancelled orders.

Run a practice batch on a normal day this month so the team knows the steps before volume arrives.

4. Understand your fraud and chargeback protection

Shopify Protect, announced with the Fall '26 Edition, is on for every business using Shopify Payments. It blocks card-testing bots, asks customers to confirm risky payments, declines payments Shopify is nearly certain are fraudulent and helps gather dispute evidence. BFCM tends to attract card testing, so it is worth knowing what is already handled for you:

  • Read the risk explanations on a few recent orders so staff know what they mean.
  • Agree who reviews high-risk orders during the peak and how quickly.
  • Keep packing photos and delivery confirmations; they help when responding to disputes.

5. Prepare for shoppers who arrive through AI

Shopify's holiday report, published on 6 October 2026, says 65% of shoppers plan to use AI for at least one shopping task this season. A few quick checks make your store easier for AI assistants to describe accurately:

  • Compare-at prices: since 9 October 2026, Shopify shares compare-at prices with AI shopping agents through Shopify Catalog. Make sure your sale prices and compare-at prices are accurate, and check the setting in your catalogue mapping if you prefer not to share them.
  • Policies and store facts: review your shipping cut-off dates and holiday return window, then check the knowledge base under Sales channels > Agentic so agents receive the right facts.
  • Product titles and descriptions: describe what each product is and who it suits in plain language, not only in brand terms.

6. Freeze big changes and plan the rest for January

Peak season is not the time for major platform changes. A few things can sensibly wait:

  • Canvas is in early access, does not support app blocks or app embeds, and Canvas themes stop receiving theme updates. Leave your live theme as it is.
  • Market-driven shipping opt-in has been opening since 1 October 2026, and it changes how rates are calculated at checkout. Unless your store has already moved, review it after the holidays; it becomes the default for all stores on 1 July 2027.
  • Storefront script tags keep running until 1 March 2027, so the audit can start now, but storefront changes can wait until January.
Set a code and app freeze date, ideally a week before Black Friday, and stick to it.

Frequently asked questions

When should I stop making changes to my Shopify store?

Many teams freeze theme and app changes about a week before Black Friday, which this year is around 20 November 2026. Content updates such as banners and collections are usually fine after that.

Can I test Black Friday offers on the Basic plan?

Basic stores can schedule discounts with Launch and Event rollouts. Experiments, which split traffic between a control and a treatment, need the Grow plan or higher.

Should I opt in to market-driven shipping before Black Friday?

It is generally safer to wait until after peak trading. The change alters how shipping rates combine at checkout and switches on split shipping, so it deserves careful testing.
